Bangalore, January 20: From the past five years, the roads in the Rayasandra area, Bangalore South, which connect from Electronic City to Sarjapur, two of the prime locations in the city, are full of massive potholes and garbage, even after numerous complaints and tweets to the authorities.
According to the localities, they’ve filed many complaints to the Shantipura Panchayat authorities, municipal corporation offices and the elected local area members regarding the situation of the area and the road, but there is no improvement.
On being asked the localities what problems they are facing, Vikas Kumar questioned the Shantipura Panchayat officials. He said: “They always come on time while collecting taxes from us at the end of every year. But what about our safety?” Most of the residents are even ready to relay the road by contributing money, but the local area members did not let us too, he added.
Under Bangalore South Constituency, for Rayasandra nine members have been elected to administrate the civic amenities and infrastructure assets of the area. However, as per the residents, the members didn’t take any steps to construct the road.
Prabhu NR, a resident of Rayasandra, said, “My wife is in her third trimester. She is scared to even step out of the house. Despite having a car, we are asking our friends to let us stay at their home during the last week of her pregnancy to be on the safer side."
“There are more than 5000 houses that use this road daily. It is very unsafe for anyone who is riding at more than 20 km/h speed. But, the local truck drivers drive their vehicles rashly, and the area members do not even accept the complaints,” Prabhu NR added.
A civil engineer, living here for the past two years, Pandyan, shared a recent accident when a 40-year-old resident died, and his nine-year-old boy fractured his left arm after being hit by a speeding truck. He demanded that the road be developed immediately.
During the monsoon season, the roads even get waterlogged every time which causes severe inconvenience to vehicle riders. “Due to the potholes and uneven road, we have noted people getting injured and incurred huge losses after vehicles were damaged,” says one of the shopkeepers.
Besides this, the residents of Rayasandra have to walk one km to the other side of the main road to dump their garbage in an empty plot because no garbage pickup trucks come to collect the waste from their houses.
